Architectural - Sketchbook

This is a photograph of primary and secondary drawings taken from my first year architectural sketchbook which was part of my assignment. I used fine liner, Indian ink, graphite, charcoal, machine stitching, acrylic paint and oil pastels.

This is one of my favourite sketchbooks. I feel I was able to show a range of drawings using various materials and was able to create different backgrounds on every page that went with the architectural theme. I really enjoyed this assignment and was really proud of myself with this sketchbook.

Fabric Manipulation - Design Ideas

This is a photograph of three of my design ideas for my first year fabric manipulation assignment using graphite and fine liner. These is also a section of my final piece which was appliqué techniques using diamond shaped silk material based on my pattern.

I enjoyed designing different clothes because each design is unique which means that I have the say in how I want them to turn out. As it was an early piece of work carried out in my first year I feel that I have improved a lot at drawing figures.

Felt Making - Designs and Embellishments

This is a photograph of felt piece designs for my first year felt making assignment. The two main felt pieces together with embellishment ideas gave me inspiration for my final two felt pieces using buttons and ribbon by hand and machine stitching.

Looking back at this work I’m not keen on it as it was an early piece of work carried out at the beginning of my first year. I do feel if I was to do this again I would be more creative and produce a better piece as I believe I have progressed a lot over the last two years.

Felt Making - Sketchbook

This is a photograph of four felt samples from my first year felt sketchbook embellished with buttons, ribbon and hand stitching. Included with these are three technical drawings for a cushion cover design.

I liked making these felt samples and embellishing then in my own unique way. I enjoyed deciding if each felt sample would work as a cushion cover and if they did I then draw the technical drawing.

Life Drawing - Final Piece

This is a photograph of my final life drawing piece in my first year. It is a mixed media piece using acrylic paint, ribbon, sellotape, news, magazine and brown paper and I decided to present this in a frame.

I am pleased with the outcome of my final piece for life drawing. I feel that it shows that I have learnt about proportion and useful techniques within my first year. I enjoyed making this mix-media piece however it was time consuming as I preferred little pieces of materials instead of large because I had better control and gave it more texture and I loved how the frame finished the whole piece off.

Print Making - Still Life Drawing

This is a photograph of some of my second year still life drawings which were used as designs for my prints assignment using graphite, charcoal and oil used for making the graphite darker.

I enjoyed working with the oil on the graphite because it made my drawings darker and stand out more. I had never used this before and feel I have learnt a new technique. I feel that I have tried to show texture within some of my drawings and these gave me ideas for my design for my print plates.

Print Making – Drypoint & Photo-Etching

This is a photograph of a selection of different types of prints from my second year print assignment using drypoint and photo-etching. I experimented with colours, backgrounds and embellished then using buttons and thread.

I enjoyed the process of making and designing the plates for drypoint and photo-etching. I feel the prints were successful and I liked experimenting with different layouts and colours. On reflection embellishing makes my prints look more unique adding the buttons and thread makes the prints stand out more.

Fabric Manipulation - Fabric Samples

This is a photograph of a selection of samples taken from my second year fabric manipulation assignment using steaming, circular felt, knotting, tie dye, rouleau loops weaving, reverse appliqué, diamond felt, slitting and appliqué. These provided me with ideas for techniques to use for my final waistcoat.

I enjoyed steaming, tie dying and weaving the most from all my samples. I believe some of these samples worked well whilst some didn’t however they contributed to me deciding on my design sheet before making my final decision.

Fabric Manipulation - Design Sheets

This is a photograph of my design sheets for my final waistcoat design taken from my second year fabric manipulation assignment. This shows some of my inspiration, technical drawings, figure drawings and samples of techniques from which I would then choose one design for my final waistcoat.

Whilst I liked both waistcoat designs I choose the blue waistcoat for my final piece because the techniques were more challenging and rewarding to make.

Fabric Manipulation - Waistcoat

This is a photograph showing different angles of my final waistcoat from my second year fabric manipulation assignment using tie dye, steaming and flowers made from felt and denim.

I really enjoyed making this waistcoat and feel I used my favourite techniques however tie die and steaming were very time consuming but I wanted to give myself a challenge and am very pleased with the outcome.
